Now offering free SSL certificates

We are pleased to announce that we are now offering free SSL certificates to all our church website hosting customers. This means that your church website will be available at a secure HTTPS address, in addition to the standard HTTP address.

The big benefit of using HTTPS over the standard HTTP protocol is that each request to your website is encrypted. This provides a much higher level of confidentiality and privacy. This is especially important on websites which ask for user data, such as a password or even a contact form. This is exactly why we have always had this enabled for our Church Social app.

Historically, using HTTPS has been a tedious process, one that required purchasing and installing SSL certificates every year on your web server. Because of this, it was generally only used on websites that really needed it. However, we are now able to offer free SSL certificates through an exciting new initiative called Let's Encrypt, whose primary goal is to offer free and automated certificates. Considering the ever-increasing importance on privacy and security, this is a big deal, and we are excited to bring its benefits to our customers.

This feature will be enabled automatically over the next few weeks. Do not worry, your existing website addresses will continue to work. They will simply be redirected to the new secure address. If you have any questions about this, please email us at [email protected].
