Using a custom church domain name
If your congregation currently does not have a domain name (e.x. yourchurch.ca), we will help choose and register one for you. If you already have a domain name, it will need to be updated to "point" to our servers. This is something that we help churches setup as part of the WordPress hosting service. This typically includes updating your nameservers to point to our DNS provider. Do not worry if this sounds complicated, we will handle most of it for you.
Choosing a new church domain name
Registering a domain name can be a challenging process. It is quite possible that the domain name you want is already regsitered. Here are a few tips to make this process a little easier.
- Aim for a country top level domain (TLD) first, such as
.comdomain is also always a good choice, but typically more difficult to find.
- You do not need your federation name (or the short form of it) in your domain. These are often acronyms that make a domain more difficult to remember or type in.
- Try to include the word "church" in your domain.
- Try to register a domain based on your church name first (gracechurch.ca), otherwise consider using the city name (guelphchurch.ca).
